Artist's Statement

In my photos I work with light to capture faces, places and moments in time. Evening light, back-light, dawn light and broad daylight…natural light. When the light shifts so do the moments-into wafer-thin layers like sheets of shining mica that will never be again. Peel them off, throw them to the wind and they are gone. Unless they are somehow captured. Walter Sheffer, an inspirational portrait photographer in Milwaukee, showed me the true beauty of light and back- light in his work and I owe him a deep debt.

I began as a black and white photographer. That’s where my soul resided for many years. In darkrooms with chemicals long into the night, I created these rodeo and cowboy images. I took them from the dusty arena home to a small darkroom full of dreams. From there they traveled onto walls and into newspapers. And today they are here in a new way never ever imaginable when these vintage photos were taken…they’re online to share with you.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I welcome your comments and thoughts.
